Please join our Library staff as we welcome Dr. Brent Mai as the new University Librarian and Dean of the Libraries for Fairfield University.
Dr. Mai joins us on July 1, 2016 after being at Concordia University, Portland Oregon for 13 years as the Dean, University Libraries, Professor of Library and Information Management, as well as the Director of the Center for Volga German Studies. Dr. Mai’s accomplishments at Concordia include the design, fund raising for and completion of a new library, building e-collection resources for online programs, and establishing an institutional repository. He also created a center for children’s literature and for Volga German Studies.
Prior to Concordia, Dr. Mai served as Director of the Walker Management Library, Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt University. He also worked at Purdue University as Assistant Professor of Library Science, Management and Economics Librarian and acting director of the Management and Economics Library. Dr. Mai also has experience in special libraries at Brown & Root Inc. and Bell North Research.
Dr. Mai earned his Ed.D. in Higher Education-Leadership, Policy and Organizations from Vanderbilt University. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Texas, a Master of Arts degree in International Finance, Economic Development, International Law and National Security from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University and a baccalaureate degree from Bethany College.
Dr. Mai has served as the President of the Special Libraries Association (2012). Dr. Mai has a strong publishing record in prestigious referred journals both in library and information sciences and history journals for his work on German Colonies on the Volga.
