Finals Week at the Library: Where Studious Stags Come Together

The Library is here to help you do your best during finals week. Check out all of the ways we’ll help you stay focused, calm, & awake during finals week….

Important Building Info:

  • The DiMenna-Nyselius Library is open 24 hours starting on Tuesday December 10th (building opens at 7:45am that day) through December 18th (closing at 8pm). 
    • Then the Library closes on the 20th at 4pm for the holiday recess and reopening on January 2nd.

  • Extended Peet’s Coffee hours
    • Thursday 12/12-Monday 12/16 8-8:30pm including Saturday and Sunday
  • Extended ITS Help Desk hours
    • Mon. 12/9 – Thurs. 12/12, 8am -9pm
    • Fri 12/13, 8am- 8pm
    • Sun. 12/15, 4pm-8pm
    • Mon. and Tues. 12/16-12/17, 8am-9pm
    • Wed. 12/18, 8am-8m
    • Thurs. 12/19, 8am-6pm

  • Since the building is very busy at this time, please leave seats free of backpacks and belongings, so others have a place to sit.
    • We are opening up additional study space in the evenings! Room 114 on the lower level will be available every night 12/10-12/17 from 5pm-8am. Check back on this page for additional study space we will be adding.
  • Don’t forget to drop by our new Wellness Room on the lower level (rm 106 B)
  • Vending machines, microwave, and a toaster available in the Café . There are also desktop computers towards the back of this space and gender inclusive restrooms.
  • Return your Library Books before you leave campus for the winter break. You can drop your books to the Library Services & Information Desk or one of the book drops (located in the lobby and another on the exterior Bannow side of the building).
  • Donate your class textbooks (or any required class texts) to our Student Donated Textbook Collection. Pay it forward to help other students save money! Drop your books off at the Library Services & Information Desk and fill out a quick form so we know which classes they were from.

Free Stuff

  • Study supplies (highlighters, pens, index cards, and ear plugs) at the Library Services & Information Desk. While supplies last.
  • Free coffee, tea, and snacks available every night at 11:30pm at the Library Services & Information Desk. We encourage you to bring your own coffee mug (with a lid).
  • Borrow useful items from our “Library of Things” with your StagCard at the Library Services & Information Desk such as phone and laptop chargers, mini white boards, blue light glasses, book stands, lap desks, a white noise machine for your study room, etc. You can also borrow board games, lawn chairs, etc.
  • Ramen O’Clock hosted by the East Asian Student Association, Mon. 12/9 from 7-8pm or until supplies last. Stop by the lobby to grab your ramen cup and water.

Academic Support

  • Drop by on Mon. 12/9 from 1-3pm to Finals Prep: Make a Plan (calendar planning event). We made a finals week calendar template for you to plan out your finals week. Come use the space and time to organize your calendar, or grab a sheet to fill out another time.
  • Librarians are available to help you with research and citations. 
    • Ask a Librarian for help by either dropping by the Library Services & Information Desk during staffed hours, using the 24/7 chat, sending us an email, or scheduling a research appointment.
    • And don’t forget that we have tutorials and research and citation guides too!
    • A research librarian will also be available at the Office of Student Diversity in the BCC during their Finials Madness at the following times:

      • Friday, 12/13, 5-9pm

  • Guided study session using the Pomodoro Technique. We set a timer and you do your work in a distraction free space. Tues. 12/10 from 2:00-4:30pm in room 114. Snacks provided. Arrive on time or early.
  • Drop by CRAM JAM at North Benson campus (Wed. 12/11 from 11am-3pm) and at the Bellarmine campus too (Tues. 12/10 from 11:30am-1:30pm) to get help from peer tutors or get citation/research help from a librarian. There will be de-stress activities, snacks and study supplies. 
  • Get citation help from librarians and enjoy donuts at Donut Worry on Thurs. 12/12 from 2-4pm in our Research Consultation Room (main level).
  • The Writing Center and Math Center will offer tutoring. See their pages for more information and to schedule an appointment.
    • The Math Center is offering additional appointments and drop in (normal hours) through the final exam period. In addition, there will be Calculus tutoring will be offered during Cram Jam on Wed. 12/11 10am – 6p).
    • The Writing Center will offer drop-in tutoring during Cram Jam on Wed. 12/11 from 11:00am-3:00pm.
    • The Science Center will offer tutoring on Tues. 12/10 and during Cram Jam on Wed. 12/11 at the following times:

De-Stress Opportunities

  • Puzzles, crafts, coloring, legos available near the Christmas Tree on the main level/
  • Wags & Wellness – Pet a Therapy Dog in Library rm 114 on:
    • Wed. 12/11, Scarlett is here from 11:30am-1:30pm
    • Thurs. 12/12, Dakota is here from 11am-1pm
    • Fri. 12/13, Timbo is here from 3pm-5pm.
  • Book Café : Book Swap & Chat casual chat about books over coffee and muffins. And learn about the Winter Reading Challenge which kicks off this day. Bring a gently used book(s) to swap so you can get something new to read over winter break (or regift!). Tues. 12/10, 10am-11am, rm 114

  • Cram Jam: A Reading Day Tradition. Drop by the Library Café and Innovation Lab on Wed. 12/11 between 11am-3pm. In addition to tutoring and other academic support there will be de-stress activities which include coloring, kinetic sand, snacks, essential oils, and more.
  • 7th Annual Pickle Hunt, Wed. 12/11 at 10am until the last pickle is found. Find one of the eight hidden pickle ornaments and turn it into the Library Info Desk to claim a wrapped pickle-themed prize. Follow us on Instagram @fairfieldulib for hints. No pickles will be hidden in study rooms, classrooms, or the Wellness Room.
  • Make watercolor painted holiday cards and snowflakes over hot cocoa at Paint & Sip in rm 114 on Fri. 12/13. Drop by from 1:00-3:00pm. Hosted by the Fairfield University Art Museum & Library. Supplies provided.
  • Drop by de-stress in rm 114 at Rip, Rage, & Relax on Mon. 12/16 from 1pm-4pm. Get out your stress by ripping, crumpling, or playing with paper! All materials will be recycled.
  • Yule Log Study Break in rm 101 on the weekend, 12/14 and 12/15, from 10am-5pm. Pop in to relax in the dim lighting and cozy musical environment.
  • Group Scream, every night 12/10-12/17 at 10pm on the dot on the Library lawn
  • Spotify channel with a variety of playlists and study tunes
