Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino is the town of Fairfield’s 2025 One Book One Town (OBOT) title. Each year, the town of Fairfield chooses a book and encourages the whole town to read it and engage through dialog and programming.
The One Book One Town (OBOT) committee, run by the Fairfield Public Library (FPL), includes librarians and staff from FPL as well as the Pequot Library, Fairfield Museum & History Center, Fairfield Public Schools, Experience Fairfield, WSHU Public Radio, Sacred Heart University’s Library, the Fairfield University Downtown Store and our DiMenna-Nyselius Library.
Beautyland is one of Time magazine’s Top 10 Books of 2024, and is on The New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of 2024 list. Fairfield University’s DiMenna-Nyselius Library has copies available for borrowing and has incorporated Beautyland into the Winter Reading Challenge. The student Book Club will also be reading it.
Beautyland is a wise and tender novel about a woman who doesn’t feel at home on Earth. It tells the story of Adina, who is sent to Earth by aliens to report back on the behavior of Earthlings.
Author Marie-Helene Bertino will speak on the book Wednesday, March 5th, at the Sacred Heart University Theater in downtown Fairfield. Event registration will open closer to the event and details will be posted on this page.
Good Different by Meg Eden Kuyatt, has been selected as a companion title for younger readers. It is also available to borrow at the Fairfield University’s DiMenna-Nyselius Library.
