Wikipedia - students love it and many faculty hate it!
According to the Pew Internet and American Life Project, 46% of those age 18 and older who are current full- or part-time students have used Wikipedia. For immediacy and ease of use, it's hard to beat. But faculty complain that anyone can make or edit an entry, and prefer students use more scholarly, traditional sources.
William Badke has written an intriguing article What to Do With Wikipedia in the March/April issue of ONLINE, suggesting that academics may do better embracing Wikipedia, actually making and editing entries as part of their classes' work. Think "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" approach.
Tom Dokoupil of Newsweek takes the opposite track in his March 6, 2008 article Revenge of the Experts.
